What We're Listening to on the Drive Back

By Zoe PapcostasJun 8, 20263 min read

There is a specific kind of music that works on the drive home from somewhere good and nowhere else — not upbeat enough for the drive out, not sad enough for much else. This is that list, built over three days at the lake.

It leans heavily on tape hiss and old cassette transfers this time — something about analog warmth suits the tired, sun-worn version of yourself that exists for the four hours between a trip and your own bed.

We will publish the full track list on the Journal's companion playlist next week, along with a few notes on the portable turntable setup one of our contributors has been running out of the back of a van for two summers.
